Now in its fifteenth year, the Navarra Quartet's members originate from England, the Netherlands and Ireland.  They begin with one of the earliest works by Haydn, the 'Father of the String Quartet'.  Beethoven's F minor Quartet starts with even more energy and rhythmic insistance than his famous Fifth Symphony, and is among his most concise and concentrated quartets.  Schubert's last work for the genre is his most dramatically extreme, with a violent 'mad scene' erupting in the serene slow movement, and a lurching roller-coaster of a tarantella for a finale.
