Two popular musicians return together in a new guise - violinist Magnus Johnston and pianist Tom Poster are members of the Aronowitz Ensemble and Magnus is also leader of the Navarra Quartet, thus performing for us twice in our last season; their cellist for this concert will be posted on our website when confirmed.  The expressive slow movement of Schumann's F major trio has been compared to that of his earlier piano quartet, famed for its yearning cello melody.  Schubert's exquisite single-movement Notturno may have been intended as a movement for a full trio.  The first of his two large-scale piano trios was completed in the final year of his tragically short life.
